There's something about this vintage wooden duck whirligig that caught our eye - and our heart. With an aged primitive vibe, this old bird is the real deal. And living out in the wild for quite some time, he has the scars to prove it.
Often called whirligig spinners, our folk art duck was hand painted long ago as you can see by the faded chippy surface. And yes, we LOVE the real life imperfections: chewed wood on his neck and breastbone, a broken wing tip, plus scrapes, marks and rust.💛
Whirligigs were often used to keep critters away from the garden with wind rotating their wings. Some older specimens had clackers that scared the varmints. But many were just used for decoration, displayed atop a fence post to elicit smiles and giggles.
Our duck whirligig can be displayed on a post (see last image for mounting plate) or hung from the ceiling. Being somewhat fragile due to age, we recommend protecting from harsh weather.

Good vintage primitive condition with imperfections galore! Please view pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
Soil and residue present throughout - has not been cleaned to protect original patina. Original hardware shows corrosion and rust though the wings turn freely. Loss of paint in general and chewed wood on the neck.
Small nail atop the duck's back so it can be hung if desired.
