Vintage Breininger Miniature Redware Dishes and Pewter Plate (c.1980s)
Vintage Breininger Miniature Redware Dishes and Pewter Plate (c.1980s)
Does redware pottery hold a special place in your heart like it does ours?
These miniature Breininger redware dishes pair beautifully with our tiny antique English pewter plate to form a lovely grouping. Pennsylvania Dutch all the way!
You will not be able to stop looking at them. Guaranteed.
Made by nationally-known potter Lester Breininger of Robesonia, PA., this redware is just about the best quality you can find. A master folk artist and teacher, Lester operated the Breininger Pottery from 1965-2011 recreating 18th century Pennsylvania pottery. Many of Breininger's pieces were often slip decorated with common folk art motifs of animals, stars, flowers and birds, similar to other old Pennsylvania Dutch art.
Both redware dishes have toggled edges and deep yellow and green slip decor. The pewter plate is marked 'ENGLAND' on the back with other faint markings.
