Antique art is the best. And when winter + rural landscape + lake + church is combined into one painting, who wouldn't be mesmerized? Soft colors - almost foggy - set the tone for a cold yet intimate look at life long ago. All of this from an anonymous artist (sigh).
We found this beauty on the outskirts of a local antique show. Likely from the late 1800s or early 1900s, though we'll never know for sure. Full of tiny brush strokes and big on heart.

Item Condition
Good-fair condition for antique painting with wear related to age and use. Craquelure, soil/residue on image, plus peeling paint, marks and overall loss mostly at edges. Unsure if frame is original to painting as the mounting is somewhat loose. Frame is chippy and soiled. Unsigned.
Painted on what appears to be a hand cut piece of Academy Board, imported by Wadsworth, Howland and Co. during the 1800s to early 1900s. Paper label on verso.
