This colorful paper abstract collage is full of fun strips and rectangles all cut and torn from old books, magazines and ephemera. Carefully combined pieces assure colors and values depict early spring blossoms. Aptly titled 'Early Spring', this piece will add a bit of lightness and whimsy in any room you choose.
Built on a book cover, the pieces were hand cut then glued to the cardboard substrate. Stitching and pencil was added for texture and interest. The back of the collage is covered with rice paper.
Every collage I make is unique and different. Yours will be signed and dated, then carefully wrapped in a protective cellophane sleeve and shipped in a rigid mailing envelope.
Inspiration
Inspired by stacks of discarded old books and papers with interesting text, images, graphics and history, old books are deconstructed, then bits and pieces are hand cut and sorted by color. I'll experiment with the design until I create an aesthetically pleasing arrangement. I'll let it rest for a few days, then return and adjust the design if needed. Oftentimes, ink, pencil and thread are added to provide additional interest and texture.
