Look at this antique octagonal whiteware platter decorated with an incised edge and blue underglaze. She was likely made in England during the 1800s based on research and the incised mark on the bottom (12)

Octagonal pieces were the most common form made for serving platters back in the 1800s. Sturdy and utilitarian, feather edge was cheap to produce but used by people from every social strata - daily laborers as well as royalty.

You can display this beauty in so many ways, but we recommend avoiding temperature extremes or liquids. Think holidays, centerpieces, stacking, or displaying fresh fruit. If you want to learn more about feather edge, check out this book.
