This primitive wood chest is decorated with a stamp painted harlequin design. Bright and colorful, we can see this beauty sitting pretty just about anywhere in your home.
Likely built as a utilitarian tool box, it has morphed into a wonderful piece of folk art. The hinged lid closes with a typical metal latch closure. The white painted interior shows several areas of reinforcement to the slat lid plus two areas to hang small tools or store a divided tray.
The back of the chest shows a strip of unpainted wood where it may have had an attachment at one point in time. The bottom of the box is unpainted. Dated to the early-mid 1900s.
