If you are looking for a unique piece of framed folk art - uncommon and quirky - this is it!!
Our vintage chalkware sculpture in a lovely aged wooden frame is titled 'It Is To Laugh!' The origin of this phrase is the French phrase "C'est à rire," which, translated literally as "It is to laugh."
This hand painted plaster relief is inscribed “Copyright M. F. O. 1909” to the lower right corner and includes a brass title placard to lower center of frame. Unsigned .. artist unknown.
This style of painted plaster, (ie: carnival chalkware), is considered folk art by today's collectors. There is evidence of re-painting and previous layers of chipped paint throughout; the most recent layer is a matte paint.
