This little fella, manufactured in San Fransisco, CA, originally held 8 oz. salted peanuts with a key wind lid. Somebody decided it was too cool to toss out, and was passed down through generations till it came to the auction block.
If you're a collector of old advertising tins, here's one for your treasure trove. Bright clear graphics with the expected surface wear add to the vintage goodness. Dated to the 1940s.
