Chocolate Marbled Swirl Crock Bowls, Set of 3 (c.1900s)
Chocolate Marbled Swirl Crock Bowls, Set of 3 (c.1900s)
There are old crock bowls, then there are old MARBLED crock bowls. Eye-catching and unordinary, these chocolatey swirl bowls look almost good enough to eat.😋
Ready to mix up your next batch of muffins, these girls are solid and ready for work, though they'd be content to perch on a shelf and watch all the kitchen action.
We sure wish we knew who made them. At first glance, we thought they might be examples of Juanita Ware, which was created by Ohio potter Bert Crawford from the 1930's to 1950's. He used slip decoration over the clay body to resemble the marble effect. It was so popular that other Ohio potters copied his technique. Since they are unsigned, we may never know the origin.
Mysteries are part of the fun when collecting old stuff, right?
