Brian VanNostrand Wheel Thrown Ribbed Pottery Vase, 20th C.
Brian VanNostrand Wheel Thrown Ribbed Pottery Vase, 20th C.
Brian Van Nostrand has been a studio potter for more than 55 years. A self-taught American potter, he composes his own glazes, then uses a wood fired process to create abstract, organic works of art.
VanNostrand's wheel thrown stoneware often includes incising and heaving carving with mid century vibes all their own. In addition, his work has been recognized in major institutions, including a public collection at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
We tell you this because he's now in his 80's and still working as a potter based in West Virginia. If you are fortunate enough to obtain a piece of his pottery, you'll want to pass it down to a family member or friend who appreciates true original art.

Item Condition
Very good condition with wear consistent with age and use. This beauty is nearly perfect in our opinion. The carved rib design and dreamy glaze of blue-grey gives off an organic, mid-century vibe. A high gloss brown glaze adorns the interior. Signed on the bottom B. VanNostrand. Undated but believed to be from the later 20th century.
