Antique Wool Tribal Rug (c.1800s)
Antique Wool Tribal Rug (c.1800s)
Our handwoven tribal accent rug will add an air of sophistication to your home or office!
This lovely antique Caucasian wool rug shows a faded palette of brick red, indigo, camel, and cream, designed with a large concentric stepped diamond medallion outlined in indigo, over a red field. The fields include two four-legged animals, a row of quatrefoil diamonds, a pair of eight-pointed stars in the lower corner, and other symbolic motifs. Central field is framed by five borders, including a primary border of boxed serpent motifs over alternating ground colors, a running water secondary border, and barber pole minor borders. Selvedges are double overcast; ends finish with unbound fringe made of wool and camel hair. Unlabeled/unmarked.
Due to the age and condition of rug, suggest using in a non-traffic area with rug pad, or as a unique wall-hanging.

More about Caucasian rugs:
"Caucasian rugs get their name from the area in which they were made – the Caucasus. The Caucasus is a region that produces distinctive rugs since the end of the 18th century and the antique Caucasian rugs are primarily produced as village pieces rather than the fine and intricate city productions. Caucasian rugs are best known for featuring bold geometric and tribal designs in primary colors."
