Antique Tin ABC Alphabet Plate Collection (c.1800s)

We found these old tin plates at the estate auction of a local antique dealer. All are dated to the late 1800s and show the alphabet around the edge. One plate features Jumbo the elephant. Very special nursery decor.

Back in the day, an ABC plate was considered a coveted gift for a baby or young child. (It certainly beats the mountains of plastic toys children seem to accumulate today.)

Item Condition

Good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. All plates show darkening and discoloration, dents, surface wear, and scratches. Surprisingly, there is no rust to speak of. Unmarked. Original patina - they have not been cleaned or polished.
