Antique Reach Co. University Tennis Racquet with Press and Bag (c.1920s)
Antique Reach Co. University Tennis Racquet with Press and Bag (c.1920s)
If you are a tennis buff AND an Ohio State University Buckeye fan, you will love our antique tennis racquet with original canvas bag and press clamp. Made by the A.J. Reach Company in Philadelphia, PA, it's in remarkable shape considering the age. Though broken and split, the gut string is the real deal. Nowadays, most racquets are made with advanced synthetic string, often promising to 'play like gut.'
The bag and racquet handle bears the name and initials of the original owner, Earl C. Gibson of Woodsfield, OH. We are uncertain when this young man actually attended OSU and played tennis.
All in all, this tennis set is steeped in historical significance and would make an exceptional gift for an individual who values history, sports and OSU.
