Antique Dutch Majolica Plate (c.1800s)
Antique Dutch Majolica Plate (c.1800s)
Are you a fan of old majolica pottery? Take a close look at this little beauty and you'll be instantly smitten. The Dutch girl and her baskets, the geese at her feet, the field. the village, and all the glorious colors.
Our antique earthenware plate is decorated with colored lead glazes typical of majolica. Dated to the 1800s, this piece was acquired from an antique dealer closing his shop. It is marked 12 on the back, and has incised letters in the green glaze. Unfortunately we cannot make out the word - it could be the artist's name or it may be a place, common with souvenir plates. It has a George Jones-esque feel to the patter, colors, design.
We are on the hunt for more info and will update this listing when we find it. Until then, here it is for your collection.
