Antique Dutch Brass Repousse Match Box (c.1800s)

Our antique Dutch match box is the real deal. From an estate auction, this antique brass box was passed down for generations and finally made it to the auction block. Humble but functional, the repousse design around the body of the box gives it a sense of elegance.In times past, this little box was hung on the farmhouse wall or cupboard for easy access. Just thinking about the workmanship of this very old piece makes it even more stunning. Dated to the mid 1800's or earlier.

Item Condition

In good shape! Our antique box shows surface wear, markings and scratches, plus some dents. there is discoloration and oxidation of the brass, with areas of verdigris. The lid hinge works well though the lid does not close all the way, leaving a small crack open. There is overall soil and residue as it's not been cleaned or polished to protect original patina.
