For the book lover, this trio of two antique bookmarks and a bone paper knife (or page tuner) would make a lovely gift. Useful, utilitarian, and authentic antique smalls, what's not to love?
The two bookmarks (tan in the photos) include a 1933 Chicago metal bookmark plus a wooden souvenir bookmark from Spouting Rock, Kennebunkport, ME.
The third ivory colored bone tool could be used as a bookmark, but was actually designed as a paper knife or page turner. What the heck is a paper knife? They were used to open uncut book pages in the Victorian era. (Check out the article below.) Etched by hand with an Asian floral design, the long attached string tassel makes it oh-so special. The three little charms include a carved elephant, a glass bead and a white mystery bead.(ivory? bone?)
