Antique Ironstone Platter with Flow Blue Brushstroke Pattern (c.1800s)

If you prefer the road less traveled, our gorgeous antique ironstone platter might pique your interest. Striking in its simplicity, this octagonal piece with luscious tea stained crazing will grab your heart, but the unusual graphic pattern is the cherry on top.🍒 Ten cobalt flow blue lines with black squiggles surround the platter's edge.

The official name of the design: Bar and Ribbon. The blue and black design is considered 'brushstroke', or hand painted, as opposed to being applied on the greenware with transfer paper.

A rare find? We really don't use that word very often. But after much research, it certainly seems rare to us. Embossed with 'IRONSTONE' on the bottom, there is no visible maker's mark. Likely from England, and dated to the 1840s-1870s.

Unlike any other ironstone platter you will find, it deserves a place of honor among your collections.

Item Condition

Good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. Staining and crazing present plus irregular bumps in the glaze on the bottom. Ten cobalt blue lines (or bars) with black squiggles (or ribbons) on top of each line. 

No other design. Very unusual. Embossed mark that reads 'IRONSTONE' on bottom. One hairline crack noted. (see last image) Dated to the 1840s-1870s.

Due to age, suggest avoiding extreme temperatures.
