For collectors of scarce old books, Pussy's Party (Jack Frost Series) is a must have for your personal library. Published by DeWolfe, Fiske and Co. (1886), very few records of this Victorian children's book can be found. Most noticeable is the lovely faded chromolithographed cover with applied gilt, red cloth spine and stapled binding. Wonderfully illustrated in black ink throughout.
A delight to hold and inspect, you can see it has been used and loved by many little hands. Sadly, the book has been used to the point of ill repair, including the separation of pages and cover. (see more details below)
Value of book lies in its rarity and chromo-and-gilt front board. We found only three other mentions of this book online (though without photos). Another related book from the 1880s Jack Frost Series, Pussy's Teachers, is equally rare.
- ONE scarce Victorian children's hard back book Pussy's Party (Jack Frost Series) dated 1886; author unknown; published by DeWolfe, Fiske and Co.
Fair condition with noticeable wear to all areas of the book. Chromolithographed cover with gilt and red cloth spine; stapled binding has been separated for the spine. Several missing pages, including frontis page and at least one page at the end. The pages are well tended with pencil writing scattered throughout, folds and small tears. The cover is faded with bumps, chips and loss of litho cover at edges. As mentioned above, the value of book lies in its age, rarity and chromo-and-gilt front board. Price reflects wear.
