Large Antique Glenshaw Square Mason Jars with Zinc Lids (c.1930s)
Sorry, this item has SOLD
We bet you could think of a zillion uses for these large antique mason jars around the house. Though these clear glass beauties are retired from canning, you could use them as a vase, a utensil crock, or to store a collection of seashells or marbles. With three of these identical old jars, the possibilities are endless.
What makes these jars so special is the history. Made by the Glenshaw Glass Company in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, these G-Square Masons are dated to the 1930's-1940's. Each is embossed on the front with a 'G' in a square and the words 'Square Mason' as well as the model number on the bottom - 3047 designates the half-gallon size.
Somewhere along the line, the original lids were replaced with a Ball zinc lid and glass insert for secure sealing during the canning process.
