We can't decide what we love most about this shabby old oil painting.
Perhaps it is the rural scene itself, an old stone cottage nestled next to a river. Maybe it's the detail and skill of the artist. Or, it could be the well-worn appearance and authentic aging which makes us stop and stare.
The canvas was obviously removed from the frame long ago leading to the folding and extreme surface wear that is present. Shabby cottage core at it's best.
This beauty is unsigned so we cannot give credit to the artist, though it reminds us of work done by James Edmund Meadows in the 19th century.
